Linear is a dytopic seeming, audiovisual composition, which shows the gray and monoton daily routine in a society of anonymity and apathy. The topic ‘rythm of the city’ is been emphasized by the choice of locations as well as the color grading. Each chapter has their own, different shades of gray or relation between black and white. The film can be divided into morning, noon and evening. This cycle is been repeated again, fastened, at the end of the film.
The soundtrack, which only consists of field recordings from the set, corresponds to the visual part of the composition, despite the cutting, as well as the energy level of the individual scenes. This gives the impression wich we got while filming at the different times of the day.

Curvature shows opposing to Linear A surreal version of the real world and hooks to its aesthetics. The existing video material from “Linear” has been mirrored several times, such that its clear lines could be used for generating ne geometrical forms and bodies. This way an unusual impression of the city and its rhythm arises.
Both films are being accentuated by a gloomy, Berlin-typical, techno sound. On the one hand, this shall make the correlation to the city itself, on the other hand it emphasizes the industrial and dytopian appearance of the visual part of the project. As already mentioned, the sound track only consists of sounds recorded on set and complements the films “Linear” and “Curvature” created in the project “rhythm of the city”.
LINEAR / CURVATURE has been created in the module klangatelier, directed by Prof. Marco Kuhn with the topic “rhythm of the city”
