SoundCubes is a project developed by Lukas Sziele in the course Soundprogramming.
It is an audio app for Windows and Mac, developed in the game engine Unity 3D. The app is aimed for “non musicians” who simply want to try something with sound, as well as musicians in search of a source of inspiration.
The concept is simple: The user generate “SoundCubes”; each with six randomly selected sounds. The user can choose the sound, by rotating the cubes. These cubes/sounds can be placed freely on the screen. The Y-axis represents the pitch and the X-axis the time. A sound collage can be created quickly, by placing several cubes. The user interaction is easy and experimental to generate intuitive microtontal loops.
